Liebster Award

Thank you very much to Martha Mother for my nomination. I’m very honoured to be nominated for such a prestigious award!

The Liebster Award is all about getting to know other bloggers so please pop over and check her blog out. It is a really fantastic blog and you’ll have a blast reading it.

Martha Mother has set me these questions:

1. Where is your favourite place in the world?
That’s a toughie. I have visited so many amazing places in the world but I’m stuck between Cuba and Bali as my favourite. Both beautiful countries with such wonderful, welcoming people. Both countries I would go back to tomorrow. Bali holds special memories for us though as it’s where we honeymooned.

2. How would you describe your blog in 5 words?
The madness of my family!

3. Is where you are now with your life, where you planned it to be 5 years ago?
I wanted my family complete before I turned 30 so in that aspect I’m where I planned but I hoped to have progressed a bit further with my career. Due to a crappy company plus an additional maternity leave that I hadn’t bargained on, I’m still in the same role I started in 9 years ago.

4. What is the best compliment you have ever received?
This is a really tough question. My husband always tells me I’m useless at noticing and accepting compliments so that might be why I’m struggling to think of any.

5. What was your first thought when you woke up this morning?
Who is this breathing all over my face? My eldest had crept into bed next to me after hubby had left for work. As much as I love him, it was a bit early for that!

6. Do you have a favourite post of your own? If so what is it about and why?
I love this piece I wrote about my difficult decision on returning to work after maternity leave. It’s a massive decision that I need to make over the next few months and I’m so, so torn.

7. If you could be any age for a week, what age would that be?
I think I’d like to be 21 again and remake my career choice. I had a teacher training place and foolishly turned it down for a job. Really wishing I’d trained as a teacher now. I’d also love to be able to go out with hubby every night of the week without having to worry about babysitters and bills!

8. Where do you go to work on your computer?
I mostly work on my lap in the front room either while supervising play time or while hubby is having a PlayStation session!
We bought a new house 18 months ago before we found out I was pregnant. I had the box room earmarked as a study. It now houses a child and all their associated mess instead of my laptop!

9. Do you have a favourite book or read much? Why or why not?
I love reading and before children used to easily demolish a book a week. I don’t have so much time for reading now unfortunately.
I love P.S I Love You by Cecelia Ahern and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

10. What did you do for your last birthday?
My last birthday was a biggie. On the actual day I just went out for dinner with my family as it’s also my Dad’s birthday the same day. To celebrate my birthday properly hubby took me away for 2 days to Alton Towers and the Splash Landing waterpark. It was adults only and we had a fab time.

11. What do you feel most proud of?
Boring I know but, it’s my kids! I brought 4 amazing little people into this world and they are perfect. They make me so proud ever day as they learn and grow.

Now it’s my turn to nominate some other wonderful bloggers.
Reimer and Ruby
Tummy Mummy
Mummy Lala

3. What’s your greatest achievement?
4. How do you spend your weekends?
5. What’s your favourite day of the week and why?
6. Where’s your ultimate holiday destination?
7. Who would be your 3 perfect dinner party guests?
8. What’s your favourite song and why?
9. If you could have any superpower what would it be?
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
11. Why did you start blogging?

Posie Pixie And The Pancakes – Book Review

Posie Pixie And The Pancakes – Book Review

Posie Pixie And The Pancakes is the seventh book in The Whimsy Wood series by Sarah Hill. We’ve never read this series of books before but I had heard great things about them.

I told the boys the title of the story and asked if they wanted me to read it. As soon as they heard the word pancakes, they wanted in!

The first thing that struck me about this book is the amazing illustrations. Sarah Mauchline does a really beautiful job of bringing the book to life through her drawings. Just look at this beautiful party animal!

The boys were really blown away with the pictures and spent a great deal of time just looking at them.

I wasn’t sure whether my 2 boys would enjoy the book as I thought it looked a bit long and grown up for them but, neither of them moved for the entire story! They’ve also asked for this story at bedtime several times since so they obviously enjoyed it.

The story is so descriptive and really builds a picture up in your head of what’s going on. It is wonderfully written for the children and really captivated the boys including the 2 year old who very rarely sits still for anything these days.

I personally did find the book quite difficult to read. I found the sentences, although descriptive, very long winded and often found myself running out of breath!

The book is great for raising awareness of some really important everyday issues such as healthy eating and the environment but, in a fun, ‘the kids will never notice it snuck in the story’ kind of way! It sparked some interesting discussions with my 4 year old about why we should pick up rubbish and why we can’t eat endless amounts of junk food!

I was really surprised by this book. Looking at the front cover I thought the story would be quite girlie but neither of my 2 complained while I was reading it. They enjoyed it so much that they have asked me to purchase the other books in the series so they can here all about Posie’s other adventures.

5 Great Things About My May

5 Great Things About My May

So, April had its highs and lows. The girls had a lovely christening day, I turned 30 and realised it wasn’t the end of the world and B got his first choice school place. But, Easter and our trip to Thomas Land was completely wiped out by chickenpox.

We’re hoping to get out more this month and enjoy ourselves after last months washout!

1. Double Bank Holidays
Daddy at home for a 3 day weekend twice in one month is fantastic. The boys really miss seeing their Daddy so love it when he’s at home for an extra day.

2. The One Year Holiday Countdown
One year to go until our first family holiday to Mexico. We’re going to a family wedding but I’m excited about spending 2 weeks of quality time with my hubby and babies. I’m dreading the flight but currently there’s 22 family members on the same flight so lots of pairs if helping hands.

3. Trip To Dublin
My husband Great Aunt is poorly and couldn’t make it to the twins Christening so we have decided to drive over to Ireland with all the children for a few days to see her.

4. My 30th Birthday Present
Hubby is taking me to Alton Towers for a couple of days minus the small people. I’m a rollercoaster junkie and last time we went was only 5 weeks after my c-section so couldn’t go on any. I’m secretly looking forward to some quality time with hubby too.

5. B Starting His Introduction To School
His nursery have a day planned for activities to get them ready for school. He’s so excited about going to school and is really looking forward to this day at nursery. I’m not sure what activities they have planned to prepare them for school but I’m sure he’ll have fun all the same!

Monsters Love Underpants – Book Review

Monsters Love Underpants – Book Review

Monsters Love Underpants is the seventh collaboration between writer Claire Freedman and illustrator Ben Cort. It’s the latest installment in the Underpants series which also features Aliens Love Underpants, Dinosaurs Love Underpants and Aliens Love Panta Claus.

We love the Underpants series in our house and the boys were ecstatic when they saw the latest book had arrived. They couldn’t wait for bedtime (which is very unusual) so they could read the new story.

It went down a storm. My youngest boy decided to add in his own sound effects while we were reading and both boys were laughing away. The story is so well written and the rhyming element flows really nicely in this book. I have had trouble getting the words out with some of the other books!

The illustrations were bright and colourful whilst also beautifully drawn. They really captured the boys attention and helped build on the story.

The book also comes with a free audio reading of the book voiced by Mel Giedroyc of Great British Bake Off fame. She is the perfect choice to read these books and you can see what I mean from this YouTube trailer.

I love a book that makes me laugh and smile too. This is definitely my favourite book in the series and it also appears to be the boys new favourite too. We read the story 3 times on the first night alone! If you are already a fan or, even a new reader to the series, you will not be disappointed with this latest edition.

Monsters Love Underpants paperback is currently on pre-order with a release date of April 23rd 2015. It’s available to buy at Amazon and all good book shops.

If you love a good competition, they are currently running a fantastic give away on their website. Send them a photo of your little one dressed as a monster and you can win a huge bundle of goodies. Good luck.
